I have been waiting patiently to post this painting and today is finally the day! This painting just needed it’s own unique time to show itself off in the world...Ivdu Es Hashem Bsimcha - Serve God with Joy! I look at this painting and feel that happiness - I just wanna dance. Put on music and dance! Everything opens up when energy is high. Let this be a reminder...

IN THE MOMENT - This painting has been sitting on my easel for weeks. Every time I passed it I added something. Never forcing it or rushing. Just enjoying the moment and seeing it for what it was. Then it was just strokes of color with a lot of white. I loved the airiness of it, so light and fresh. I left it not sure what to do with it since I loved how it looked undone. Then when I’d pass it again I kept seeing rooftops! And that’s what it was! I really wanted to keep the vibe and not mess with it too much so I incorporated the buildings very slowly. Being still and truly enjoying the moment. It was very cool.

I painted trees and grass all around this painting to signify life, growth and patience. So much of what we do is setting the ground work. It isn’t till much later that we see The fruits of our labor. Marriage is full of that. Everything is a process and we have to be so patient. Patient with each other and patient with our goals and dreams. Just like trees, they need strong foundations to grow. Once they do, the grow big! 36” x 48”

The way I paint this is by carving out the image with the actual paints. As the strokes come on, I begin to see what’s happening and go with it, stroking my way through, adding more of darks and lights until something emerges. I can probably take the easier route by making the image and then stroking on top, but it won’t feel the same. The depth comes from the feeling it through, the unknown, the back and forth, and the struggle. Every few minutes I stand back - what do I see, what do I need to add or take away? Feeling my way through the painting. And here it is: Jerusalem, so deep & with blue hues.
There are plenty of metallics that don’t show in the image, but the painting shines in person.

The Force

What do you see when you look at this? I see a force, a powerful strong force in a simplistic form. That reminds me that a force doesn’t have to be blaring to be strong. Many times it’s the exact opposite. Force can have the greatest impact in its essence of simplicity.

This painting was inspired by the current reality. I started it before but just finished and decided to title it as such. I’m talking to myself here but feel free to read and join along...Let’s be kinder to each other. Not outwardly nice. Actually internally interested, engaged & kind to our fellow brothers and sisters. KINDHEARTED. || I wanted to keep this painting very light and airy. There are lots of metallics.

Hidden light

HIDDEN LIGHT: I started this painting right before Chanukah. I did a bit here and there and then left it sitting on the easel for me to keep adding a stroke when ever I saw my next move. I came back to it Thursday night to finish it up. It was the only thing I wanted to do. Thursday afternoon I got into a minor car accident. Although, it could have been major - I was inches away from death happening. We’re all ok BH, but I’m so shaken up. As I was painting, I was processing my thoughts - and what I’ve come to realize, is that HaShem is watching over me and He’s watching over you too. There was so much good that was there - the lady I was bumped was so nice. An African American woman. Sweet nice lady. The police man was kind as well. A neighbor came out of her house and offered to watch my baby so that I didn’t have to hold him in the cold. My step father came and took the bigger boys. In a moment of chaos, I felt safe. I really believe that we create our own safe havens and it has to come from inside of ourselves. We project that energy into our lives. Yes, I was moments away from really scary things & it was a personal wake up call to me, I’m not sure for what - I’m still processing, but it was mirroring to me what is happening on a macro level - we are being yelled to - wake up! We don’t need to go on Jewish news groups to be immersed in chaos all day long. That instills insecurity In is from within! That’s the worst thing! We don’t need to harp and watch and read...we need to think and take personal action to be better. Time to Wake up....

..And I will carry you on the wings of eagles....”. As I was painting the colors onto the canvas I had no clear direction. Just let the color lead the way. When I was done, the movement was insane and I saw flying things. That’s when this concept came to me. Al Kanfi Nesharim. The eagles that will bring us back to Jerusalem. I wanted the movement and the color to take precedence and the image second. I hope I did it justice.

Ayeca - Where are you? Where are you God? He’s in every single one of us. A chelek elokah m’mal - a piece of God from above. Inside us. We have to go inside and find him. Search internally. But how? Gratitude and fear cannot live at the same moment. When we shift our perceptive to see good, fear dissipates. Then God appears. God is inside you and me, and small miracles are all over the place on the outside. We Just have to look.

This painting was my escape for the two weeks. I was using a photo as a reference and it was very intricate and overwhelming. I told myself: “one stroke at a time”...When I couldn’t see anymore, I left my brushes for the next day. It didn’t feel pressurized - I just would slowly add more strokes, knowing that something would emerge. It was my nightly escape, each time going to my studio and painting some more until something did happen! It turned out very different from my other works but very cool. With all of that, introduce to you: ASCENDING.

I always wanted to paint Bereshit...I had a vision and didn’t know how to get there. I wanted something different, something that can hang innocently without the viewer knowing right away what the painting represents. I didn’t know this painting would be it. I started off painting 8 lines, and I figured the inspiration would find me somewhere. Then it hit me. Change the 8 into 7 and make it Bereshit. And somehow this happened!

I wanted to depict it’s holiness, spirituality, majestic ness - all of it!! With much effort and prayer, this painting that you’re looking at, came forth. Then I found mother of pearl paint, which gave the Bais Hamikdash (Temple) the most ethereal feeling and it was complete. I added people walking, to inspire us. To make it real. May we be so fortunate to see this our real lives.

Mispallim | Original

This Original Painting is called Mispallim. It shows people in the midst of praying to G-d. The beautiful uplifting background colors really make this painting stand out!
Artist inspiration: "Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real”. A funny thing happens - people tell you to think big, to go for it, but then when you do, they look at you like your a little crazy. Or tell you that it won’t happen. (Or if they’re your parent, tell you to go back to your real job) So what is it? Just words? “Dream big.. go for it..” nice lofty words that no one actually expects to come into fruition, so they can be said easily? It’s interesting...but the truth is, for those of you smart enough to believe in your dreams & the few people telling you to go for it, you’re doing the right thing! Because your reality is what you make it. And if you can trail-blaze past all the people who look at you like you’ve lost it, then you will eventually live your dream. It’s H.A.R.D work, but if you can dream it, you can create it. DREAM BIG. YOU can do it!
What drew me to this scene was the light and the stones - How the light is shining on the stones. The stones that tell stories of so many years....The stones that shine with our history. Stones that are saturated with so much holiness. It’s simply magical...I hope I did them some justice.
